You didn't have to be a prophet or have access to classified intelligence sources to understand that the 'disengagement' plan would bring disaster upon us • But our ears were deaf

Ten years ago this week, the bulldozers descended on the settlements of the Gaza Strip and northern Samaria.

Today, many voices are already being heard admitting that this was an unfortunate move. Is this really wisdom after the fact? Perhaps in those days it was not possible to foresee all the destructive consequences of the move?

Absolutely not.

These things were said and written countless times immediately after the plan was announced. Simple things that you don't need to be a prophet or have access to classified intelligence sources to say.

But some turned a deaf ear.

What are they saving?

Here are some things that were written on this platform on the 25th of Nisan 5764 (16.4.04):

""The prime minister's main argument is that in the reality that there is no partner in the agreement, a vacuum has been created, and dangerous policy plans could enter into it. Therefore, it is better for us to take the initiative, in order to minimize the damage and save what can be saved.".

""And you listen and ask yourself - what are we saving? And will the demolition, at our initiative, of the thriving settlements in the Katif region cause the world to agree to the annexation of other regions of the country? And are we thereby filling the empty space? Isn't it absolutely clear that the uprooting of the settlements and the expulsion of thousands of Jews from their homes will serve as leverage to increase pressure to do the same in Judea and Samaria as well.".

""The Prime Minister says that in return he will bring American agreement to the settlement blocs and the non-return of Arab refugees into the country. This is nothing more than a show of hands. We already know today that the American paper will try to walk between the drops and not say anything clear and unambiguous [...]

""It is therefore clear that the 'disengagement' will not give us any real value in return, except for world-wide praise for the 'courage' to withdraw from the territories of the homeland and uproot settlements, emphasizing that this is just the beginning and that the world hopes that the Israeli government will follow this unfortunate path 'from strength to strength', withdraw from more territories and uproot more and more settlements.".

A sealed and secured office

The article continues with the terrible price that the unfortunate plan will exact:

""This sets a precedent that allows prosperous communities to be uprooted and thousands of Jews to be expelled from their homes. The murderers will celebrate the victory on all the rooftops of Gaza, and the jubilation will fuel new waves of terror and murder.".

""The internal rift within the nation, in light of the shocking sights of Jewish families being torn from their homes, will cause an extremely painful trauma, the consequences of which are difficult to assess. The rift between parts of the nation could reach heights we have never known before.".

""And most importantly – breaking the belief in the right of the Jewish people to their land could undermine our sense of ownership of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv as well. Our enemies will see this as an important milestone in fulfilling their ambition to eliminate the Jewish 'settlement' that has arisen within the Arab space.".

These are the simple and logical things that were written at the time. Supporters of the plan responded that "things that are seen from there are not seen from here.".

Indeed, they were right.

The simple truth that is seen from here was not seen in the sealed and media-controlled office. This is how the terrible move that will be remembered for the world's infamy was carried out.
