Due to the security situation: In one of his classes, the great Rabbi Yitzhak Zilberstein raised the importance of studying continuously without breaks to listen to news and entertainment, while linking the missile strikes that occurred in the city of Bnei Brak to this - because 'if there are holes and shrapnel in learning, then there are also holes and shrapnel in defense.'.

Below are his full words:

""There's a bit of a bad rumor going around on the street, everyone comes and asks a question. That the famous Chazon Ish said that there would be no bombs in Bnei Brak, because Bnei Brak is protected and guarded. And everyone asks that today we see differently, we see that there were falls in several houses, and although most of them did not die, there were serious shrapnel. And everyone asks whether the Chazon Ish's promise that there would be no bombs in Bnei Brak has been nullified?

""I think there is some to be said, not much but some to be said. A person who studies Torah, He should know that when he studies, he extends over himself and over all the people of his city the perfect protection of Torah, and this saves from all evil, as they say in Tractate Sota (page 21a), That the Torah condemns and punishes, The Torah protects and saves us.

Rabbi Zilberstein said that when his brother-in-law, Rabbi Kanievsky, was asked during the Gulf War whether to leave Bnei Brak, he said, "It is narrated in the prophet that the king Aram He sent a whole army to capture Elisha: 'And the servant of the man of God arose and went out, and behold, an army compassed the city, both horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, What shall we do, my lord? And he said, Fear not: for we are more with them than with them. And Elisha prayed, and said, The LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the servant, and he saw; and, behold, the mountain was full of Horses and a chariot of fire surround Elisha.

""And who are Elisha's defenders? The Torah he learned is what protected him, and even today the city is protected by millions of pages of Gemara, but we don't have the prophet to open our eyes.".

""All these things are good when everything goes smoothly, but when there are people among us who, when there is news, in the middle of studying the Gemara, they turn on the news to hear what they said on the radio or on the news lines. That's a bit offensive! This is not what Elisha the prophet intended when he spoke about the defenders...

""I sit among my people, and I see and know that they study well in the Lord, but still, when there is a news update, and it gets to seven or eight o'clock, he is in the middle of studying, and he opens it to hear what the news is. That is no longer exactly what is written in the prophet, and that is not what our rabbis intended. He does think that he does not stop much, just to hear a little news, short news, a quick one, but this thing is harmful, I think. And there is no promise of the Chazon Ish.

""Although he is a person who studies Torah, he sits and studies, so God protects him more than others, but to say that there will be no harm is hard to say, because his Torah is not studied as God wanted. There are some small holes there, there are small holes in his prayer, in his study, so therefore there are also small holes in his defense. If there is a hole in his study, then there are bombs in the hole as well. To study Torah is called there is no news, there is no oldness, there is only one thing: God is king, God is king, God will reign forever and ever.".

""This is the answer I give to all those who ask me about the bombs being destructive, because that is no longer exactly what God said. God said, "He who keeps the Sabbath, and he who keeps the Torah, and he who fulfills the Torah, and fulfilling the Torah is called studying Torah without stopping in the middle, but you stop in the middle, a small break to hear only the main points of the news, not everything. The main points of the news are a hole. There is a hole in the protection, there is a hole in the defense, so there is also a hole in the bombs. And indeed, thank God, there are not as many disasters as in other places, but this is not the same thing that God spoke about.".
