Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu published a video this evening (Monday) in which he responds to the left's attempts to disqualify Roman Gofman's appointment as head of the Mossad.
Netanyahu: "The only person who appoints the head of the Mossad is the Prime Minister. The Mossad and the Shin Bet are directly subordinate to the Prime Minister by law. The Prime Minister is the one who appoints those who head them.".
Not the legal advisor, not the High Court - and not the media.
Major General Roman Goffman is a heroic warrior. He is courageous, and he is one of the most respected operational commanders in the IDF.
During the Renaissance War, in "The Dog People" and "Harry's Roar," Roman demonstrated exceptional leadership. He demonstrated outside-the-box thinking.
On October 7, Roman leapt from his home in Ashdod toward the Gaza perimeter. At the Shaar Negev intersection, he encountered Hamas terrorists. He made contact, he eliminated terrorists, and he was seriously wounded. But he recovered.
He has courage, he has initiative, he has determination - and he has cunning. But above all - he has independent thinking and supreme responsibility for Israel's security.
People like that should head the institution - and that's why I chose him.
So why are they trying to disqualify him? Because he's not from the clique? Because Roman came from the Soviet Union? Because of political considerations? Because he's my military secretary?
"Roman was chosen by - the Prime Minister - to be the next head of the Mossad of the State of Israel - and he will lead the Mossad from strength to strength.".
