MK Maklev delivered a scathing speech today (Sunday) in the Knesset plenary, as part of the budget debates, during which he denounced the biased conduct of the opposition representatives on the Finance Committee.

MK Maklev said that during marathon discussions lasting over 10 hours on the education budget, the difficult problems of the general education system were almost completely neglected in favor of baseless attacks on Haredi education.

""We thought you would be concerned with the shortage of teachers and administrators in general education, the disciplinary problems and the lack of educational messages there," said Maklev, "but that's nobody's business. All you were concerned with was how to discredit Haredi education. 'And you told your son' - you are busy with other people's sons instead of caring for the education of your constituents' children.".

Maklev praised the success of Haredi educational institutions and held up a mirror in front of the critics: "I am ready to face any objective test. Let's examine where there are greater difficulties in reading comprehension and universal tests. While general education struggles with difficult reading problems, Haredi education gives children a complete toolbox of understanding, analytical ability, problem-solving, and creativity.".

He added proudly: "We are proud of our education in values and roots, in honoring parents and teachers. The non-observant public knows the truth, which is why we see in cities like Ramla and Be'er Yaakov parents sending their children to 'Shuvu' institutions and independent education. They are looking for the traditional education that is only available here.".

At the height of his speech, Rabbi Maklev exposed the hypocrisy in the opposition's cries against the budgeting of the institutions: "There is a leakage of teachers and kindergarten teachers from Haredi education to general education. When the Ministry of General Education takes our excellent kindergarten teachers, who grew up and were educated in Haredi institutions without an academic degree - then that's perfectly fine? They deserve to teach there? But when they ask to pay them a fair salary within Haredi education within the framework of 'Ofek Hadash', suddenly you have complaints?

""It's not persecution what you're doing - it's simple envy of the results of pure education.".

Maklev concluded his remarks by demanding an end to the ongoing discrimination against ultra-Orthodox teachers.
