The updated state budget for 2026 will be up for debate and vote in the Knesset plenum today (Sunday).

Knesset members will vote on the budget in second and third readings almost at the last minute - just 48 hours before the deadline allowed by law. If the law is not approved - the move will lead to a quick election.

The Haredi factions will vote with the coalition, except for the Agudat Yisrael faction.

Budget discussions in the Knesset plenum were supposed to begin last Thursday and continue until the wee hours of the night, in preparation for votes on Friday afternoon. However, with the agreement of the coalition and the opposition, the discussions and vote on the budget were postponed to Sunday.

The plenary session opened unusually at 9:30 a.m. According to the special debate procedures established by the Knesset committee, the justification of reservations to the proposals will continue until 9:00 p.m., when almost 120 Knesset members will gather to vote on the budget, a process that will last about four hours.

If there are no last-minute surprises, the budget will be approved after midnight.

The chairman of the Finance Committee, MK Hanoch Malbitsky, presented the proposals at the opening of the debate and said: "I want to note the work that was done in the Finance Committee, which was conducted in a matter-of-fact manner. The opposition members stood their ground firmly and courageously and did a lot of work for us, but in the vast majority of cases they did it from a good place of concern for the public and from a place of desire to improve and streamline.".
