This story sounds like a joke taken from one of the lectures by home security experts - except that it happened in real life. In Philadelphia.
John Kramer, 50, and his wife owned a 1990 Corvette. One day, John decided he was tired of the Corvette and wanted to trade it in for a minivan.
But John, like all of us, encountered the woman's firm opposition.
Why did the woman object? It's hard to know, and it doesn't matter. Maybe she got attached to the Corvette, maybe she was allergic to the minivan, or maybe she just wanted to piss John off.
In any case, John begged her for three months to exchange the car - in vain.
Kramer's nerves snapped, and he drove the sports car straight into the river, in other words: Neither you nor I will be spared.
""I didn't want to drown the car in the river," John told the Mirror website, "but I paid $3,600 for the damn car two years ago, and there's no reason I wouldn't trade it in for a minivan.".
The police recovered the car, and Kramer was forbidden from approaching his wife, who complained that she was afraid of him.
Who knows - today it's the car, tomorrow it's the house.
