סוף המירוץ? ארבעה ימים לפני הבחירות לנשיאות, נחקר היום בנימין (פואד) בן אליעזר באזהרה, במשרדי להב 433, וזאת בחשד לקבלת כספים שלא כדין.
דובר המשטרה מסר: בעקבות מידע שהגיע ליועץ המשפטי לממשלה במהלך השבוע האחרון, בנוגע לחשד לקבלת כספים שלא כדין בידי חבר הכנסת והשר לשעבר פואד בן אליעזר, היועץ המשפטי לממשלה פנה לראש האגף לחקירות ולמודיעין לצורך קיום בדיקה משטרתית בנדון. בהמשך לכך, נחקר הבוקר בן אליעזר באזהרה במשרדי להב 433 במשך כחמש שעות. בשלב זה לא יימסרו פרטים נוספים.
בן אליעזר הגיע הבוקר למשרדי היחידה בשעה 10 בהתראה של כ- 20 דקות, ונחקר במשך 5 שעות. מלישכתו נמסר בתגובה
""The timing of the police investigation, four days before the presidential election, is puzzling. MK Ben Eliezer arrived this morning, with 20 minutes' notice by phone, to provide all the information requested. Ben Eliezer asked the relevant authorities to complete the investigation as quickly as possible and bring the truth to the public's attention.".
The Movement for Quality Government demands that the Attorney General know by Sunday afternoon whether Mr. Ben-Eliezer is qualified to run for president or not. "The Attorney General's decision to open an investigation at this time and at this stage requires him to act and make a decision as quickly as possible, so that he does not claim that the presidential election process was tainted by extraneous procedures and considerations of excessive legalization. It is the Attorney General's duty to remove the cloud from the presidential election process.""
Police sources estimate that presidential candidate Benjamin Fuad Ben Eliezer will be summoned for further questioning at the offices of Lahav Unit 433 as early as tomorrow.
