
The United States attacked Iran last night (Wednesday) in response to the downing of a US military Apache helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz.
The US Central Command announced upon the launch of the attack: "US Central Command (CENTCOM) forces began launching self-defense strikes against Iran, today at 5:00 PM Eastern Time, on the orders of the Commander-in-Chief, in response to the downing of a US Army Apache helicopter yesterday. The mission is a proportionate response to unjustified Iranian aggression.".
President Trump, on the other hand, bragged: "I think it's very important to respond. They shot down a helicopter, and we're responding right now. This is a response to what they did to our helicopter last night, and I believe the response should be very strong, very powerful, and that's exactly what this attack represents.".
In a conversation with an ABC reporter, he said: "This is a response to what Iran did to our helicopter last night, and I believe the response should be very strong and powerful.".
A senior American official told CNN: "Our strikes are not expected to harm the negotiations. They are a 'warning shot.'".
The targets of the American attacks - around the Strait of Hormuz, where the Apache helicopter was shot down: Bandar Abbas, Qeshm Island, and the port of Sirik.
The Iranian news agency 'Tasnim' responded: Iran will respond to American aggression in the near future.
The Revolutionary Guards' Aerospace Force threatened a "harsh response" to what it described as "hostile actions by the enemy.".
President Donald Trump called Prime Minister Netanyahu to update him before the attack.
Earlier this evening, the US President announced that the crash of the American Apache helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz was caused by Iranian fire.
The President tweeted: "I have just been informed by our great military that last night the Iranians shot down one of our most sophisticated Apache helicopters while it was patrolling over the Strait of Hormuz. There were two pilots on board, both safe and unharmed.".
""However, the United States must, by necessity, respond to this attack. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"
Political commentator Amit Segal responded: "I'm a little confused: after all, just two days ago Trump demanded that Israel not respond to Iran because there were no casualties. Why respond now?""
Iran is firing back. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Qalibaf made it clear: "We prefer the language of diplomacy, but we are much better at other languages. If you violate your commitments, we will switch to the language we know how to speak best. You will bear the consequences of your actions.".
Spokesman for the National Security Committee in the Iranian Parliament, Ebrahim Rezaei: "We kiss the hands of that fighter who shot down an American helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz, and dealt another slap in the face to Satan. We will honor him as a hero.""
