Twelve prominent Heder yeshivot leaders issued a joint statement declaring that they would prohibit their students from enlisting in the Armored Corps.
The step was taken following the IDF's decision to promote a pilot for integrating female fighters into tanks, which is expected to launch in the November recruitment.
The chairman of the Democrats, Yair Golan, responded on his X account: "This letter is a disgrace. Women will integrate wherever they want, and in whatever role the IDF needs them. Everyone will enlist for full military service, including national religious and ultra-Orthodox, and no sector will establish conditions for the state anymore. The IDF is the state people's army, not a sectoral militia.".
MK Yaakov Asher of Degel responded to his words: "Smotritz, Salomon, Rabbi Midan, and the entire choir that has enjoyed lashing out at the Haredim so much lately - as I have said more than once recently: You are a target just like us, if not more so.
""Continue to make holes in the ship, and then don't come with claims. Understand, they don't distinguish between 'ultra-Orthodox' and 'religious' - we are 'dodging' - you are 'Messianic'!"'
