The government approved this morning (Sunday) in its meeting an additional amendment to the Minimum Wage Law, which came into effect on April 1, 2015. According to the amendment, an additional 300 NIS will be added to the minimum wage, and instead of 5,000 NIS, the wage on December 1, 2017 will be 5,300 NIS.
It should be noted that the Minimum Wage Law, which came into effect on April 1, 2015, updated the minimum wage to 4,650 NIS and ordered a gradual increase up to 5,000 NIS in three stages: starting on April 1, 2015: 4,650 NIS, starting on July 1, 2016: 4,825 NIS, and on January 1, 2017: 5,000 NIS. Following the amendment to the proposal approved as stated today, in accordance with the coalition agreement between the Shas faction and the Likud faction, the salary will increase by another 5,300 NIS - starting on December 1, 2017. The goal of this proposal is to reduce the gaps in Israeli society by increasing the income of the working class in the lower deciles, who earn the minimum wage. Economy Minister Aryeh Deri added: "A situation in which people work and remain poor cannot exist in a reformed society. I have engraved on my banner the help for the weak and the law that we passed today in the government will help increase the salary of workers who earn the minimum wage. "The amendment to the law will provide certainty to workers, employers, and I believe that it will increase the salary of all workers. I congratulate the Histadrut and the employers who promoted this important agreement.".
