The European Union's foreign ministers announced today (Monday) the imposition of new sanctions against those they defined as "violent settlers" in Judea and Samaria.
In a statement by the European Union's foreign minister, the "violent settlers" were compared to senior Hamas figures.
The statement said: "EU foreign ministers recently approved imposing sanctions on Israeli settlers for violence against Palestinians. They also agreed on new sanctions on senior Hamas figures.".
In Israel, they reacted angrily to the decision.
Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar attacked: "Israel strongly rejects the decision to impose sanctions against Israeli citizens and organizations. The European Union chose, arbitrarily and politically, to impose sanctions against Israeli citizens and organizations due to their political positions and without any basis."
Sa'ar emphasized: "Equally outrageous is the intolerable parallel that the European Union chose to make between Israeli citizens and Hamas terrorists. This is a completely morally distorted comparison.".
"Israel has stood, stands, and will stand for the right of Jews to settle in the heart of our homeland. No people in the world has such a long-standing, documented right to their land as the people of Israel have to the Land of Israel. This is a moral and historical right that has also been recognized in the law of nations, and no one can take it away from the Jewish people."
""The attempt to dictate political perceptions through sanctions is unacceptable and will not succeed.".
Head of the Binyamin Regional Council and Chairman of the Yesha Council, Israel Gantz: "We view with severity the shameful decision of the European Union foreign ministers to impose sanctions on innocent organizations and residents of Judea and Samaria.".
""This is the height of hypocrisy and double standards: it is an unprecedented moral low to include in the same decision sanctions against Hamas terrorists who slaughtered our children, along with measures against Israeli citizens. In the same debate in which the EU rightly condemns the kidnapping of children in Ukraine, it chooses to attack precisely those who are on the front lines of the fight against Palestinian Authority terrorism, which funds and rewards murderers of Jewish children and babies.".
""Instead of fighting rising anti-Semitism in Europe and supporting the only democratic country in the Middle East, the EU is succumbing to a false campaign and turning the victim into the culprit.".
""We call on the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to act with the European Union to stop the political persecution and immediately lift the sanctions.".
The organizations and individuals on whom the European Union imposed sanctions: the Nachla Association, the Amana Organization, the Hashomer Judea and Samaria Organization and its CEO Avichai Suissa, the Regavim Movement and its CEO Meir Deutsch, as well as right-wing activist Daniela Weiss.
