The heads of the Yesha Council's authorities gathered for a meeting regarding the continued leadership of the organization.
During the conference, it was decided to extend the term of the incumbent chairman, Yisrael Gantz, who also serves as the head of the Binyamin Regional Council.
This is an exceptional decision, since the chairmen of the position served for a maximum of two years.
The extension of the term is intended, according to sources in the council, to allow continuity and stability in promoting the interests of settlement in Judea and Samaria in the near future.
In accordance with the decision made at the conference, the official elections for the leadership of the Yesha Council will be postponed and will be held early next year - January 2027.
A statement from the Yesha Council stated: "In recent terms in the Yesha Council, the chairman served for a maximum of two years. Last night, the heads of the Yesha Council's authorities met and decided to continue the term of the council's chairman, Israel Gantz. In accordance with the decision, the elections for the chairmanship of the Yesha Council will be held in the month of Shevat 5777.".
