Dramatic news for the residents of Binyamin and the surrounding area: After years of heavy traffic congestion and safety risks at the Hizma Intersection, one of the most significant projects to regulate traffic in the area is underway.
In recent days, work has begun on the ground to prepare the route, as part of the first stage on the way to constructing the traffic light that will regulate the intersection and change the transportation reality in the area.
The project is being promoted and implemented at the initiative of the Ministry of Transportation, through the Moriah Company, which is responsible for leading and implementing major transportation infrastructure projects, and is part of a broad policy to upgrade major traffic routes and increase safety in the area.
The project is expected to bring significant improvements in traffic flow, reduce congestion, and upgrade safety at the intersection, which for years was considered one of the main bottlenecks at the entrance to Binyamin.
The work is expected to last several months and will be carried out in stages, with some of it taking place at night to minimize disruption to traffic.
The move joins the infrastructure revolution led by the Ministry of Transportation and the Binyamin Council, with an investment of approximately 2.5 billion shekels in roads throughout the region.
Among the main projects: Highway 45, which has already begun, and the Qalandiya settlement, which is expected to open soon.
Minister of Transportation Miri Regev: "The Hizma Intersection is a central and busy traffic point, and we are working consistently to upgrade infrastructure and safety throughout the country. The construction of the traffic light is another important step in improving the continuity of travel, reducing congestion and increasing safety for all road users. This is part of a broad policy that we are leading to strengthen transportation connectivity between localities and improve the quality of life of residents.".
Head of the Binyamin Council and Chairman of the Yesha Council, Israel Gantz: "For years, Binyamin residents have had to deal with severe traffic jams due to a square that was built improperly and created congestion and risks. Now we are beginning actions that will significantly ease the quality of life of the residents.
""The repair at the exit from Jerusalem towards the center of Binyamin is a major move that will bring about a real change in the flow of traffic. It is part of a broad revolution that we are leading on the roads, with unprecedented investments that are bringing about change on the ground.".
Director General of the Ministry of Transportation, Moshe Ben-Zaken: "The Ministry of Transportation is working to promote quick and precise solutions to transportation bottlenecks, in cooperation with all parties in the field. The traffic light project at the Hizma Intersection is an example of focused work that translates a real need on the ground into actual engineering execution, while maintaining the safety of users and maintaining the continuity of traffic as much as possible during the work.""
