An extraordinary competition ended today (Sunday) in Beijing, in which humanoid robots demonstrated surprising skills: they performed a dance, entered a battle arena and boxed - and later, the sophisticated robots even competed in a variety of sports such as running and soccer games.
According to a report in the Associated Press, the high-profile event involved about 500 Chinese-made robots, operated by 280 teams from 16 countries, including the United States, Germany, and Japan.
The Chinese initiative is intended to demonstrate the country's technological advances in robotics and artificial intelligence.
American websites reported that several embarrassing glitches occurred during the games. For example, once four robots collided with each other and fell into a pile, but despite this, some of the robots surprised others by managing to get up on their own, without help from the organizers.
