Shas Chairman Aryeh Deri addressed the 'Basic Law: Torah Study' - which will be submitted for approval in the plenary session - at a meeting of the Shas faction in the Knesset this afternoon (Monday).
"Precisely in these days, when the people of Israel need more rights to succeed in the campaign against its enemies, we demand that Basic Law: Torah Study be put to a vote this week, as a condition for supporting any other law.".
According to him, "This will be a historic declaration of the supreme value of the Torah and the contribution of Torah scholars to the people of Israel and its security.".
Deri addressed the right-wing bloc: "I call on members of the faith bloc parties to unite around the law and express support for it, so that we can continue to promote the important laws on the agenda.".
'Deri's 'Basic Law: Torah Study,' which Prime Minister Netanyahu promised to pass in three readings, will grant equal rights to IDF fighters and Torah students.
