Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reacted sharply this morning (Monday) to the announcement by the Legal Advisor to the Prime Minister, Attorney Gali Baharav Mayara, that she intends to prosecute his close advisor Yonatan Urich, in the case of the leak of classified documents to the German newspaper Bild.
Netanyahu said: "The disgraceful announcement by the legal advisor to the government about the intention to prosecute Yonatan Urich, precisely at this time, is an unfortunate decision that raises serious questions.".
He added: "I know the details, and I state clearly and unequivocally: There was no harm to the security of the state. Jonathan did not harm the security of the state.".
Netanyahu emphasized: "This is a baseless, groundless move - designed to serve another agenda, and not the public good.".
Last night, the Attorney General announced that she had decided to file an indictment, subject to a hearing, against Urich.
The State Attorney's Office informed Orich that he is being considered for criminal prosecution, subject to a hearing, in the Bild affair, for a series of serious security offenses.
According to the announcement by the Attorney General and State Attorney Amit Isman, Urich will be charged with security offenses of providing confidential information with the intent to harm state security, possession of confidential information, and destruction of evidence.
