Eight measles patients were identified in Israel in the past week, and the Ministry of Health is calling on those who are not vaccinated against the disease to get vaccinated and for children under the age of 6 to complete an additional dose of vaccine.

In total, starting from April 20 - the holiday of Passover, 8 patients were diagnosed - six of whom are not vaccinated and two who are apparently vaccinated with only one dose out of two.

According to the epidemiological investigation, four of the patients were infected abroad or following contact with family members who returned from abroad. The epidemiological investigation regarding the additional patients is still ongoing.

Among those infected are two children.

So far, patients have been discovered from the central region - Tel Aviv and Bnei Brak, as well as patients from Emek Hefer and the Haredi city of Modi'in Illit.

The Ministry of Health notes: "Recently, there has been a noticeable increase in measles cases worldwide, including in a number of Western countries, and hence the concern about importing cases of the disease into Israel. The most effective and safest way to avoid contracting measles and its potential complications is by receiving the two doses of the vaccine that are routinely given in Israel.".

Measles is a highly contagious viral disease that manifests itself in fever, general malaise, runny nose, and rash, and can have severe and even life-threatening complications.

If symptoms appear and until medical examination, one should avoid staying in public spaces such as shopping malls, public transportation, etc. If it is necessary to go to a clinic or emergency room, one should coordinate arrival and notify the staff upon arrival at the medical facility.
