In 2025, a new record was broken in the history of Israel Railways, with approximately 72 million trips made across the country - an increase of approximately 101% compared to the previous year.
According to the data, Tel Aviv Hashalom Station remains the busiest station in Israel with more than 17 million passengers per year, followed by Tel Aviv Savidor Center, and Jerusalem Yitzhak Navon Station.
In December alone, more than 7.3 million trips were recorded - a new monthly record, and on one day in December, almost 376,000 passengers used the train.
Behind the surge in the number of passengers is a combination of expanding the service, new electric trains, lengthening trains, and increasing the frequency of trips.
For many, the train has become a permanent alternative to the private car in recent years, especially when traveling to work, to school, or just to go out with the family, thanks to the ability to reach city centers without looking for parking or standing in traffic jams for long periods of time.
Central stations across the country continue to record an increase in demand, and the high volume of travel reflects the railway's ever-expanding place in Israel's transportation system. In terms of economy, the railway offers a particularly cost-effective travel model compared to the costs of fuel, car rental or parking. Children up to the age of five travel free of charge, while teenagers up to the age of eighteen enjoy half price when using Rab-Kav.
Senior citizens defined in the "Gold Line" profile are entitled to free travel in accordance with the "Transportation Justice" reform. In addition, there is no additional charge on the train for strollers, suitcases or large bags, and they are stored in the designated equipment racks.
The aspect of accessibility and service constitutes another central pillar of the travel experience: Israel Railways operates a broad assistance system for passengers with mobility disabilities or adults who need help, with all stations and carriages being accessible. By prior arrangement with the service center, you can receive personal accompaniment from the station staff from the entrance to being seated in the carriage.
In order to ensure the safety of all passengers, Israel Railways has launched a new campaign to refresh safety and behavior rules at stations and in trains.
The campaign emphasizes personal responsibility, consideration for other passengers, and adherence to safety and behavior rules that will improve the travel experience.
The train reminds passengers to wait behind the yellow line until the train has come to a complete stop, to supervise children throughout their stay at the station, and to allow passengers to disembark from the cars before boarding. During the trip, passengers are asked to keep the cars clean, avoid disturbing the environment, and obey the instructions of the train crew and security guards.
For the purpose of planning your trip, it is recommended to arrive at the station after purchasing a ticket or validating it in advance.
Additionally, in accordance with police and fire department guidelines, the number of passengers on the Jerusalem line is limited to 1,200 per train. The required voucher is issued free of charge and can be ordered in advance on the website, in the app, or at service desks at stations.
