In the past two years, four bombs were targeted at Lahian, three of which were attached to his car - the last in January of last year, and another bomb was attached to a restaurant owned by his family in Bat Yam.

Lahiani, 59, served as mayor of Bat Yam between 2003 and 2014. In December 2015, he began serving an eight-year prison sentence for being convicted of three counts of breach of trust.

Five months later, he was released from prison after serving two-thirds of his sentence. In February of last year, after the seven years of disgrace imposed on him for his criminal conviction had passed, he ran again in the mayoral election - but lost to Zvika Brut.
