The Olympic table tennis (ping pong) team has a stubborn, brave competitor capable of enduring long hours: a talented ping pong robot, made in Japan.

The robot has three legs and five motors, and is able to respond to every blow from the opponent in a split second.

The robot was presented at a technology conference in Tokyo.

The almost-human machine is equipped with stereoscopic cameras and computer algorithms, which allow it to track the position of the ball and the opponent.

But the robot still can't participate in the World Championship: the reason is that human players are able to mislead it by making confused or rotational movements that it hasn't yet overcome.

""The robot needs some improvements before it can compete with humans equipped with the ability to do 'spins' that confuse the robot, but this technology is another step in manufacturing processes where humans and machines can work together," said lead researcher Takuya.
