Ze'ev Kam, the political correspondent for 'Kan News', published this morning (Sunday) that senior members of Yamina said in closed-door talks: "If we have to choose between a fifth election and joining the Netanyahu government, we will choose the option of the Netanyahu government.".
This is actually the closest statement made by Yamina regarding joining a government under Netanyahu, despite Bennett's public statements that he intends to replace the prime minister.
This is a strengthening of the line that Bennett has been leading in recent days, after his statement last week that he would not sit under Yair Lapid as prime minister.
The Yamina party said in response: "Only Yamina, led by Bennett, will replace Netanyahu, preserve right-wing rule, and pull Israel out of the mud.".
Last week, Bennett made it clear that he would not sit in a government led by a left-wing party. "What I see in all the polls and also from the conduct of the last two years is that Netanyahu is unable to form and maintain a stable government, and therefore the time has come to replace him, and that will only happen from the right," Bennett said in an interview with Reshet B.
He said, "Yamina will not sit in a government led by the left, including Lapid as prime minister. Lapid can say he is anything, but in the end we will not sit in a government led by the left. We have no problem with Lapid participating in the government, but the question on the ballot is between Netanyahu and me.".
At the same time, New Hope chairman Gideon Sa'ar is taking a more moderate line than Bennett's statements in recent days and said yesterday in an interview with Assaf Lieberman on the program "All Political" on Kan News that he does not rule out a rotation with Yesh Atid chairman Yair Lapid.
