The high poverty rates in Haredi society led the Be'Etsami association to launch a unique employment program for the Haredi public. The program focuses on providing a comprehensive family-employment solution for both spouses.
''Be'tsami', which has been working for about 20 years to integrate populations with few opportunities into employment, examined in depth the solutions for promoting employment currently offered to the Haredi public and found that they are characterized by being short-term and mainly focused on placement.
For the most part, these solutions are not tailored to the needs of the target audience, who are deeply disconnected from the world of employment and are dealing with additional life difficulties. For this audience, a deep, ongoing, system-wide solution is required, with an individual-family-community approach.
The solution: a program for families
In light of this, a team of Haredi employment experts from Be'Etsami has developed a unique and comprehensive employment program to integrate families into stable and fair employment. The program, "Direction to the Haredi Family," will last for about a year and a half, and, as its name suggests, is unique in that it is designed for families.
The program will work to integrate fathers into employment and at the same time support mothers in continuing to work, in order to prevent the "revolving door" effect in which one parent goes to work and the other has difficulty continuing his work. The goal is to reach a stable reality in which both parents earn a living, and the entire family framework is prepared to deal with change.
The program will include group workshops, personal guidance and ongoing family guidance, and in addition, participants will also benefit from a workshop on managing the family budget, in collaboration with the 'Bells' association. As a result, the ability to earn a living is expected to expand, family income is expected to increase significantly, and dependence on aid agencies is expected to decrease.
Call to action
In light of Be'ezmi's perception of the importance of multi-system support for families to create sustainable change, the association is issuing a 'call to action' to local authorities, from which two local authorities will be selected to jointly operate the program, to advance families within their jurisdiction.
''Be'estmi' will invest many resources in the employment program - in developing, operating, managing, and budgeting the activity to the tune of hundreds of thousands of NIS per settlement. The local authorities will support the program by employing a community social worker, allocating infrastructure for the activity, and providing symbolic financial support.
Rabbi Naftali Flintstein, head of the Haredi sector at Be'tsami: "We see significant value in promoting employment among the Haredi community living in poverty, who are seeking to achieve economic independence. In light of Be'tsami's many years of experience and tens of thousands of proven successes in promoting employment among underprivileged populations, including among the Haredi community, we believe that this program will provide a fundamental and profound solution.".
''Be'tsami' is a social organization operating since 1995 to promote employment among underprivileged populations in Israel.
