Forbes Israel publishes a list of Israel's richest people in its Rosh Hashanah issue, and for the first time, all of the individuals on the list of the 100 richest are worth over a billion shekels - each of them.
Forbes mentions that at the beginning of the previous decade, the entry ticket to the list of the 100 richest people in Israel was 250 million shekels. Last year, the threshold was about 850 million.
This year, for the first time, all 100 of Israel's richest people can boast the title of billionaires. Their combined wealth stands at almost 500 billion shekels - half a trillion.
According to the list's editors, the billionaires' fortunes will only grow, although it is not clear who will take the lead, high-tech people or business people.
And now for the list:
In first place this year, as last year, came media mogul Patrick Drahi, who owns, among other things, Hot. Drahi is also the biggest gainer this year, after his value jumped by no less than 25 billion shekels in the past year.
Another person who doubled his fortune is Teddy Sagi (6th place on the list), a 43-year-old young man. Sagi led the Playtech company, which built website management platforms, but also invested in technology and real estate ventures.
In a conversation with Forbes, Sagi said the following: "There's still a long way to go. Technology allows us amazing things, an opportunity that didn't exist until a moment ago. We're looking deeply and seeing a lot of investments in the fintech sector. This is a field that will grow stronger in the coming years, and we'd like to be there. We're very diligent, believe in hard work, and hope for good results.".
