Open road: Following an appeal by Deputy Minister of Education Meir Porush to the head of the police traffic division, work will be stopped during the days of Selichot at night on Highway 1, in the section between Shaar Hagai and the entrance to Jerusalem. This is to allow tens of thousands to ascend and pray at the Western Wall and in the courtyards of the rebbes, without unnecessary traffic congestion on the roads.

As is known, during the days of Selichot, crowds of Beit Yisrael from all over the country gather in the evenings to pray at the Western Wall Square. It is also customary to receive blessings from the elders of Israel ahead of the New Year. All of this creates traffic congestion that is clearly felt on the way to Jerusalem.

Following the recent events on Highway 1, especially late at night, huge traffic jams are forming - which was expected to cause many disruptions for the masses of immigrants to Jerusalem at night.

Because of this, Porush contacted the head of the Traffic Division with a request to order the halt of work on Highway 1, starting this Saturday night, until the eve of Yom Kippur - and to allow smooth traffic flow to Jerusalem.

In light of his request, the head of the Traffic Division announced that he had responded to the request and intended to order the cessation of work between 10:00 PM and 2:00 AM, on a section of Highway 1, between Shaar Hagai to the entrance to Jerusalem, from this Saturday night until the eve of Yom Kippur.
