This morning (Tuesday), during her participation in a panel at the Haredi High-Tech Conference, held in the JVP Media District in Jerusalem, Adina Bar Shalom, founder of the Haredi College in Jerusalem, took advantage of the stage to attack MK Eli Yishai.
According to her, it was Yishai who, for political reasons, supposedly out of fear of the Lithuanian rabbis, prevented her appointment, ten years ago, as a member of the Council for Higher Education. This was despite the fact that her father, the late Rabbi Yosef, had welcomed the move.
Bar Shalom said that when she was approached about three years ago for the position, she could not accept it, due to her being the director of the college and the fact that it constituted a conflict of interest. Bar Shalom added that if she had been appointed to the Council for Higher Education 10 years ago, she could have significantly influenced the integration of Haredim into higher education institutions in Israel.
When Eli Yishai heard what she said, he found it hard to believe. If he didn't prevent her appointment three years ago, why did he prevent it, she said, ten years ago? What has changed in those seven years? And in particular, that the same rabbis stood behind the Lithuanian faction 'Degel Hatorah', even three years ago.
""I regret Ms. Adina Bar Shalom's inaccurate statements," he said. "The data she has is incorrect, and in any case, I have never had the ability to include her as a member of the Haredi College or prevent her from joining. I congratulate Ms. Adina Bar Shalom on her activity in establishing the Haredi College in Jerusalem. I support expanding higher education options for the Haredi public and have worked on this issue for many years, and I continue to work to open the gates of higher education to the Haredi public today.".
