The dear people of Israel fell victim to an internet hoax: On a new Facebook page, opened two days ago in the name of businessman Yitzhak Tshuva, a post was posted last night (Saturday) in which "the people who live in Zion" were called upon to share the post and respond with the words "thank you", thereby entering a raffle in which ten million shekels will be raffled off.
""Dear and beloved Israelis," the impersonator wrote in response, "I am happy to inform you of a limited-time offer. Following the huge gas profits from the Tamar reservoir, I have decided to give a little back to the people living in Zion. 10 million NIS will be raffled off among everyone who likes the Facebook page and this post, shares it, and writes 'Thank You' in the comments.
The promotion is valid for one week only! Good luck to all of us.".
As expected, the post garnered tens of thousands of shares and likes from innocent surfers, while a significant portion of surfers quickly got over the trolling.
By this morning, the post had accumulated nearly 20,000 comments and shares, and 25,000 likes.
Sources close to the gas partnerships responded: "This is a false page that constitutes another link in a heated and inciting discourse against the gas partnerships and their leaders, which is backed by vested interests. He intends to file a complaint with the authorities on the matter and seek justice against those behind the false page and the offensive advertising for all that it implies." The gas companies emphasized that "the campaign of incitement and delegitimization against the industry has crossed all boundaries.".
