Ralph Persson will probably never forget this moment: a large brown Scandinavian bear ran towards him with the intention of attacking him, but Persson showed resourcefulness and escaped from the large predator.
Persson was out training with his new hunting dog in the forest in Sweden when the bear emerged from the bushes and started running towards him.
Persson did not lose his temper and began shouting and waving his hands at the bear, which was frightened by the shouting and left the scene.
""I screamed as loud as I could," Persson was quoted as saying on the Mirror website, "and waved my arms. I learned this from watching birds that had managed to scare away bears - through calls and flapping their wings - in the past.".
Despite this, Persson admits that he acted improperly, as "I got too close to the bear. I should have respected the animals and not entered their territory.".
Deaths due to bear attacks are very rare in Sweden, and in recent decades only such cases have been known.
