Paul and Nikki Groves, a couple in their forties from South Wales, Australia, felt increasing frustration when their family dog, Dash, ran away from home almost every day, without them understanding how he did it.
The couple has three children and two cats, and all the doors to the house are barred, so the big dog's way out was illogical.
The two decided to purchase a camera that records the doorways of the house for 24 hours, and after a day the mystery was solved: the dog, with surprising intelligence, managed to pass through a tiny opening intended for cats measuring 9 x 7 inches (less than 20 square centimeters), arching its body all the way to the exit.
""We have two cats, and one of them, who is not very big, can barely fit through this opening," Nikki told the Daily Mail. "It's amazing how he managed to do it.".
""When you see the size of Dash, and then estimate the size of the cat opening in the bars, you just laugh," Paul added.
