Yair Lapid declared that 'cynicism is returning,' but a new survey reveals that the picture is a little more complex.
At a conference held last Wednesday on the topic of Zionism and social justice, held by the International Educational Foundation (ISEF) at the Mayanot Youth Village, a comprehensive survey among students from across the country was presented that revealed new data on the topic of 'Zionism.'.
In a survey conducted by the Smith Institute, it was found that only 6% of the students define themselves as 'Zionists' and then 'Jews'. 44% defined themselves as Jews, and 39% defined themselves as Israelis. The survey also found that out of 306 respondents, 56% of them would be happy to purchase a foreign passport.
However, when asked about the possibility of studies at the academy being in English, 67% of those surveyed answered that they were opposed to changing the language.
The CEO of the ISAF Foundation, Tomer Samarkandi, said in response: "The ISAF Foundation is committed to the Zionist nature of the State of Israel and is concerned about the survey data. Today, the answer to Zionism is doing social justice, and therefore, it intends to act and expand the circle of knowledge on the subject of Zionism at the conference, and we will also reach out to our thousands of students in the leadership, society and social initiatives programs operated by the Foundation.".
The ISAF Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by the late banker Edmund Y. Safra and Ms. Nina Weiner, which has awarded thousands of scholarships from undergraduate to post-doctoral degrees to young students from the cultural-geographic periphery of Israel over the past decades.
