How much would you be willing to pay for major intestinal surgery for one of your loved ones? A lot, it turns out.
Now calculate: how much would you be willing to pay for such surgery, for your goldfish?
The Daily Telegraph brings an extraordinary story about a kind-hearted Australian who discovered that his goldfish was suffering from seizures and brought it to the vet.
But the veterinarian, Dr. Tristan, explained to the man that his fish was suffering from tumors in his intestines, which were preventing him from excreting waste, and he had to undergo life-saving surgery.
"And how much does the surgery cost?" the fish owner asked.
300 euros (about 1500 shekels), the veterinarian replied. It should be noted that the price of a goldfish is around 5 shekels.
The man refused, as expected. But on his way home, his conscience began to bother him, and he decided to return to the clinic and save the poor fish. He withdrew the considerable sum, and the complicated surgery began.
Dr. Tristan explained that the fish was anesthetized by placing it in a bucket of water mixed with anesthetics, and then the tumor was gently removed from it. "It was a pretty large tumor, without it being removed it would have died," said the surgeon.
The fish is fine, and is recovering in the aquarium.
