What happens when you wake up one morning and discover you've become an 80-year-old? This scary question became a harsh reality for Hu Zhan, from Hunan, China, according to the Hicks and AuditCentral websites.
Immediately after the birth of her first son, about 11 years ago, Joanne began to notice that her facial appearance was changing rapidly. Her youthful appearance deteriorated and she was unable to recognize herself in the mirror.
Zoan, who rushed to the dermatologist, discovered to her horror that she suffers from a rare disease called Cutis Laxa, a connective tissue disorder that causes the skin to become loose and wrinkled.
The disease, which only affected her face and neck, is so rare that only nine other people in the world besides Joan suffer from it.
Joan's life became difficult. She locked herself in her house, refused to go out, and her eldest son declared that he was ashamed of his mother.
On the other hand, Joan enjoys the support of her husband, and she hopes, she said in an interview, for a normal life in the future.
The elderly woman is currently undergoing medical treatment, in which a team of dermatologists will attempt to operate on her face, which was the only area affected by the disease, and attempt to restore some of her skin's elasticity.
