A photo of an ultra-Orthodox soldier making his way to the base, carrying a Torah scroll and a weapon, drew excited reactions on social media.
In the photo taken by Chaim Goldberg, reserve captain Yehuda Weizmann is seen walking in Hasidic attire, carrying a long weapon, next to a suitcase on his way to an IDF base. A ceramic vest was placed on top of the suitcase.
The main detail that caught the eyes of many surfers was a Torah scroll wrapped in a tallit, which Weizmann holds in his hand.
Passersby who encountered him walking took the opportunity to kiss the Torah scroll and salute him.

Weizmann has been serving as a battalion rabbi in the reserves since the outbreak of fighting on October 7. He previously served in regular service, and later attended a special officers' course on behalf of the Military Rabbinate.
At the outbreak of war, he was called up for reserve service and served in Camp Shur for missions to identify casualties.
Later, he was assigned as a rabbi to a number of maneuver battalions in the various combat sectors of the IDF.
