During a proactive enforcement activity in the Beit Shean area, today (Monday) inspectors from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Safety stopped a private vehicle for inspection that aroused their suspicion.

Upon opening the trunk of the vehicle, the inspectors were exposed to 11 goats, only about a month old, crammed inside the trunk.

An initial investigation by the leadership revealed that this was a planned and long journey: the leadership purchased the goats in the Tel Mond area in Sharon and intended to take them to the Meron area in the Upper Galilee.

The ministry emphasizes that transporting young animals in the trunk of a private car and over such a long distance constitutes a serious harm to their welfare and a real risk to their lives, especially given their young age when they need constant supervision and feeding.

In addition, the inspectors uncovered a series of offenses that could significantly endanger public health and animal health: transportation without proper marking, without a veterinary permit, in a vehicle not licensed to transport animals, and without a transport supervisor. The goats were rescued and transferred to a protected facility of the ministry for proper veterinary care and rehabilitation.
