Defense Minister Yisrael Katz referred today (Sunday), in his speech at the inauguration of the renewed Sha-Nur settlement in northern Samaria, to the war in southern Lebanon and the return of IDF bases to northern Samaria.
Katz said: "We maintain this status when the IDF is deployed in the security zone in Lebanon up to the anti-tank line 10 kilometers deep - from the sea line in the west to the entrances to Mount Hermon in the east.".
From this line, which our heroic soldiers captured, the IDF protects Israeli communities from any direct threat - from a raid or anti-tank fire - and continues to act to thwart terrorist threats and infrastructures in the field.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and I have instructed the IDF to operate with all force, both on the ground and in the air, even during the ceasefire, to protect our soldiers in Lebanon from any threat. Any structure that threatens our forces and any roadway suspected of being loaded with explosives must be destroyed immediately.
""This is the goal of Operation 'Silver Plow' in Lebanon: to remove the houses in the border villages that served as Hezbollah terror outposts for all intents and purposes and threatened Israeli settlements. These houses will not remain there.".
He said, "The ultimate goal of the campaign in Lebanon is to disarm Hezbollah and remove the threat from the northern communities - through a combination of military and political measures.".
""The entire security area between the security zone and the Litani line must be demilitarized and free of Hezbollah terrorists and weapons. If the Lebanese government continues to fail to meet its commitment, the IDF will do so by continuing military activity.".
""This is how we will also act with regard to the long-range rocket fire north of the Litani and throughout Lebanon. The IDF is prepared to continue the mission: we have guaranteed security to the residents of the north - and so we will.".
Regarding the return of IDF bases to Northern Samaria, he said: "Alongside the historical status, there is also a personal aspect to this event for me: As a paratrooper, the Sha-Nur base was where I began my journey in the IDF, as a rookie. Precisely for this reason, this is an important closing of a circle for me to lead the return of IDF bases to Northern Samaria.".
""We are leading a broad plan to relocate IDF camps in Judea and Samaria and are allocating 350 million shekels to it to strengthen security and settlement.".
""As part of this plan, we are currently advancing the planning for the relocation of the Menashe Regional Brigade from Ein Shemer to Tel Dotan, as well as the relocation of the Binyamin Regional Brigade. We aim to also lead the relocation of the Etzion Military Police and the Kharasina Battalion in Kiryat Arba as soon as possible - and are working to raise the necessary budgets for this.".
