Attorney Gali Baharav-Miara asked former Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar to hand over to her materials relating to the involvement of National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir in police work.
According to a report this evening (Tuesday) by Avishai Greenzig, legal commentator for the i24 channel, the request is intended to allow Harav Meyara to use the information as part of the state's response to petitions in the High Court demanding the dismissal of the Minister of National Security.
The current revelation sheds new light on the publication by political commentator Amit Segal about a year ago, when he revealed that Ronen Bar instructed his subordinates in the Shin Bet to gather information about Minister Ben Gvir's conduct with the police.
That investigation, which initially focused on political involvement in police work, later expanded to examine the "infiltration of Kahanism" into the organization's ranks.
It now turns out that the move began, among other things, following a direct appeal from Baharav Miyara, who requested that a factual foundation be established against the minister for the legal proceedings.
Despite the efforts, the initial findings collected by the Shin Bet failed to substantiate the suspicions that Ronen Bar sought to verify. However, Bar did not close the case but instead ordered his people to expand and deepen the investigation in order to bring more significant findings.
The Office of the Legal Advisor to the Government chose not to respond to the publication.
Amit Segal responded to the report: "The Secret Security Service is searching for and collecting material against the political echelon at the direction of the Attorney General and the Chief Prosecutor, for the purpose of a petition seeking to dismiss the political echelon.".
MK Moshe Saada tweeted: "Gali Baharav sent a pamphlet to the head of the secret service with the aim of removing a serving minister, and all this only out of a desire to carry out a coup d'état through criminal means.".
""This is what it looks like when the Deep State tries to overthrow a government. I call on the Minister of Justice to act this evening within his authority and appoint an external prosecutor who will order the opening of a criminal investigation against Gali Baharav, Mayara and her partners in the criminal conspiracy.".
""We are done being silent. We are dismantling the Deep State and returning power to the people.".
