Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced today (Friday) that he has ordered the removal of Spanish government representatives from the coordination center in Kiryat Gat. This is after, according to him, Spain "chose repeatedly to stand against Israel" - and defamed IDF soldiers.
Netanyahu said: "The State of Israel will not remain silent in the face of those who attack us. Spain has defamed our heroes, the soldiers of the IDF, the soldiers of the most moral army in the world.".
""Therefore, I ordered the removal of the Spanish representatives from the coordination center in Kiryat Gat, after Spain repeatedly chose to stand against Israel.
""Anyone who attacks the State of Israel instead of the terrorist regimes, whoever does this, will not be our partner regarding the future of the region.".
""I am not willing to tolerate this hypocrisy and this hostility. I do not intend to allow any country to wage a political war against us without paying an immediate price for it.".
Earlier today, the Foreign Ministry announced a dramatic deterioration in relations with Spain, after it decided to expel the country's representatives from the International Coordination Center in Kiryat Gat. The center was established as part of President Trump's peace plan.
The Foreign Ministry statement said that the decision was made "against the backdrop of the anti-Israel obsession of the Spanish government led by Sanchez and the serious harm to the interests of Israel - and also of the United States - including during the war against Iran.".
It was also written that "a corresponding notification was given to Spain" and that "the United States was informed in advance of the said decision.".
The Foreign Ministry statement quoted Minister Gideon Saar as saying: "The Sanchez government has such a blatant anti-Israel bias that it has lost all ability to serve as a useful factor in the implementation of President Trump's peace plan and in the CMCC center that operates within the plan.".
The decision to expel the representatives comes after a series of incidents and harsh statements by Spain, which is hostile to Israel.
