Yaakov Wider, a member of the Bnei Brak City Council, sharply confronted Mayor Hanoch Seibert at a city council meeting regarding the approval of the appointment of Attorney Yaakov Raved as the municipality's legal advisor.
This, after five years in which the municipality operated without a permanent legal advisor.
Wieder demanded a discussion on the issue, but Mayor Seibert prevented him from speaking in an orderly manner, claiming that Wieder "was not here," and the vote was moved forward with a restriction on his words.
Wieder strongly protested the mere fact of raising the appointment at this time, saying: "Why didn't you postpone the controversial appointment until after the war? Why is it urgent now?""
Wieder also claimed that holding the vote without an orderly discussion harms the proper functioning of the City Council and its oversight capacity: "This is a critical appointment with broad implications, which cannot be held without a proper and open discussion to the public.".
Despite the opposition, the appointment was approved by a majority vote, with even the ostensibly opposition representative on the committee for senior appointments, Menachem Carmel of Etz, supporting and even praising the appointment at the meeting - something that angered Wider.
During the discussion, there was a personal exchange, with Seibert responding to Vader: "Everyone knows you are never right" - a statement that provoked reactions in the courtroom.
Vider replied: "Here everyone is afraid and silent, outside everyone is telling me the truth about the municipal conduct.".
Wieder said after the meeting: "It is impossible for such a significant and critical appointment to be approved without any discussion and at a sensitive time, while harming the oversight ability of the council members. Their only goal in the hasty appointment is to have someone who will protect their rotten conduct and ensure that the businessmen's job and combine operation will continue without any interruption.".
