Regarding what is happening before our eyes, it is appropriate to say the phrase found in the Book of Psalms: "We were like dreamers.".
Who would have believed that we, with our American allies, would cripple the Iranian empire, which had imposed its terror on the entire region? The successes are beyond imagination, to the point that even non-Jews, including Muslims, openly admit that God is on the side of the people of Israel.
Amazing imagination
When we read the Book of Esther on Purim, we could feel that it describes what is happening these very days. As in the story of the scroll, only in retrospect do we see how the hand of providence guides the movements, and how dot joins dot until the great movement is created.
What would the whole story of Purim have looked like if Mordechai had not exposed the plot of Baghetan and Teresh, and they had succeeded in assassinating Ahasuerus? And what would our story have looked like if the assassin in Pennsylvania had succeeded in his plot and the bullet had hit Trump in the head?
The rescue of Ahasuerus led him to order Haman to mount his savior Mordecai on a horse in the city street; and the rescue of Trump strengthened his belief that he was the messenger of Providence to save the people of Israel and humanity from the Iranian danger.
And if you like, our story should begin earlier, with the Russia-Ukraine war. If Russia had not been mired in the long war, it is likely that it would have been a deterrent against launching an attack on its friend Iran. This is how God turns the tables, and only in hindsight can we see how the big picture is created.
Light and joy
The miracle of Purim begins with the hanging of Haman, and our miracle also begins with the immediate elimination of the Iranian oppressor at the opening stroke. See how the words fit together in a miraculous way: "For Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the adversary of all the Jews, had devised against the Jews to destroy them," and the end was that "his evil plan that he had devised against the Jews would return on his own head, and they hanged him and his sons on the gallows.".
After that, the war is waged and it happens to us exactly as it is narrated in the scroll: "And it shall be overthrown, that the Jews shall rule over them that hate them." The people of Israel shake off the notions of restraint and hesitation and go forth to fight their enemies: "The Jews gathered themselves together... to lay hands on those who seek their harm." Fear is replaced by determination to defeat Israel's enemies: "And the Jews smote all their enemies with the stroke of the sword, killing and destroying, and they did to their enemies as they pleased.".
Just as it was in those days, when "all the princes of the provinces… were consecrating the Jews, because the fear of Mordecai had fallen upon them" – so now other hymns are suddenly heard from the world. Even influential figures in the Arab world admit that it was a mistake to think that the Arabs could destroy the people of Israel.
And this happens precisely in the month of Adar – "and the new month that was turned for them from mourning into joy, and from mourning into a good day." God, the Almighty, leads the people of Israel to complete redemption, in which we will have "light and joy and gladness and joy"!
