MK Boaz Bismuth, chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, held a 'reprimand call' this morning (Tuesday) to MK Ram Ben Barak, following the break-in of MKs from the Yesh Atid party into his office last week - during a meeting he held with ultra-Orthodox MKs on the draft law.
Yesh Atid members took advantage of the fact that Ben Barak had kept the "key" card to the bureau, from the days when Ben Barak himself served as chairman of the committee - and used it to break into the bureau.
On behalf of Bismuth, which overturned Ben Barak's removal from the Secret Services Subcommittee, it was stated: "In the meeting, it was made clear that the break-in to his office was a crossing of a red line and a serious violation of the committee's norms. Ben Barak apologized and pledged to act from now on in accordance with the rules.".
In recent days, Ben Barak has approached Bismuth, both through emissaries and directly, with a request to cancel the decision and avoid his removal from the prestigious committee - and has agreed to apologize for his actions.
The reprimand conversation took place through the mediation of the legal advisor to the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Attorney Miri Frankel-Shor.
However, Bismuth did not give up on the issue of MK Moshe Tor-Paz, who participated in the break-in and even photographed a document from his desk - and he was officially removed from the chairmanship of the Foreign Policy and Publicity Subcommittee, in accordance with the directive of the committee's chairman, MK Boaz Bismuth. The vote passed by a majority of 7-5.
His office said: "This is an extremely serious conduct, which included breaking into a classified compound and illegally copying documents. In light of the seriousness of the acts, a vote will be held later today in the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, in which Tor-Paz will be removed from the chairmanship of the Foreign Policy and Publicity Subcommittee.".
It should be noted that when MK Bismuth approached the Knesset officer to report and complain about the 'hack' - the Yesh Atid faction laughed: "Likud's reactions are becoming more whiny and hysterical than ever.".
