The Ministry of Health announced today (Monday) a temporary closure order for 'Rami Levy Sycamore Marketing' in the mall on 4 Fliman Street in Haifa, by Haifa District Physician, Dr. Rana Shibli.

The order issued this morning states that the branch must be closed without customers entering, goods being taken out and brought in, and any other business activity. This is after a repeat inspection conducted at the location found, among other things, cockroaches among the vegetables, rat droppings, mold, and a lot of dirt in the refrigerators.

The order detailed the reasons for closing the branch: "On 11/13/2025, I held a hearing due to serious sanitary deficiencies found in an inspection conducted on 11/10/2025 by our office's inspector. This inspection found numerous deficiencies that pose a danger to public health. At the end of the hearing, I announced the suspension of my decision regarding the issuance of the order, in light of the statement of the hearing participants, including the chain's representatives, that some of the significant deficiencies found had been corrected and that the correction of the significant deficiencies had been completed the day after the hearing (on 11/14/2025).

""I also stipulated in my decision that a re-audit will be conducted and if it is found that the essential deficiencies have not been fully corrected, I will issue a closure order to the supermarket without a re-hearing.".

""On November 16, 2025, a repeat inspection was conducted at the supermarket, during which it was found that quite a few deficiencies still remained in the supermarket, some of which were material deficiencies, contrary to what was stated during the hearing, and that the situation in the business still poses a danger to public health.".

The order also detailed the deficiencies found at the branch in the last audit:

1. In the vegetable sales area, cockroaches were seen walking among the produce for sale during the inspection.

2. In the entrance to the vegetable room, rat droppings were found on the work table after it was shown at the hearing that the table had been cleaned.

3. The vegetable room - Rat droppings were found in the cold room, indicating the presence of rodents in the business premises. The cold room was also not cleaned.

4. The vegetable display refrigerator was found to be dirty. Also, some of the baskets intended for selling vegetables were rusty and the coating was peeling off.

5. The display case used to sell cheese is dirty with whey and there is an accumulation of dirt under the stainless steel cabinets. The cheese refrigerator at the sales stand is also dirty with milk spills and its shelves are rusty and peeling.

6. The milk display refrigerator was found to be dirty and some of the ventilation grilles were damaged and dirty. The general level of cleanliness and maintenance of this refrigerator was poor. There was noticeable dirt accumulation in the various ducts and mold accumulation on the plastic used to display prices.

7. In a milk backup refrigerator, the boxes used to store merchandise are subject to return with mold buildup.

8. There is a leak and ice buildup in the freezer room on the lower floor. This cold room has not been cleaned and there is a lot of dirt buildup inside.

Additionally, deficiencies remain that require correction, as reported during the hearing.

The order states: "In light of the above, the continued operation of the supermarket, under the poor sanitary conditions found, constitutes a danger to public health.".
