The IDF responded today (Saturday) to the document of principles for the draft conscription law that Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee Chairman Boaz Bismuth forwarded on Thursday to the committee's legal advisor, Attorney Miri Frankel-Shor - a document on the basis of which the draft conscription law will be formulated.
The IDF statement stated that "an up-to-date draft for the presentation of the conscription law has not been delivered to the professional elements in the IDF so far, so it is not possible to comment on them.".
The statement further stated: "The IDF has broad and urgent manpower needs and they are required to realize the operational challenges. The needs were presented numerous times in the various committees and they have not changed from what they were presented. The IDF addressed, within the framework of the committee's discussions and additional professional discussions to which it was summoned, professional and technical issues that will enable the outline to be agreed upon to be implemented efficiently and effectively.".
The chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, MK Boaz Bismut, responded this evening and explained that a draft has not yet been formulated: "I thank IDF officials for their active participation in the discussions and meetings that took place in my office and for their professional contribution to the formulation of the document.
""The document, which was built in accordance with the operational needs and the professional and technical issues presented by them, as the IDF noted today in its announcement, forms the basis for an outline that will enable efficient and effective implementation.".
He added: "The document has been transferred to the legal advisor only at this stage, as part of an orderly legal formulation process. As we have already noted, the draft law will be formulated in the coming days and will be brought to an open and transparent discussion in the committee, in the presence of the IDF and all relevant parties.".
""We continue to act responsibly to promote a law that strengthens the IDF, Israel's security and national unity.".
