Exactly two years after the October 7 massacre: Zohar Mamedani, the Democratic Party candidate for mayor of New York, published a statement today (Tuesday) in which he attacked and wrote that Israel "has launched a murderous war in Gaza.".
According to Mamdani, "After that day, Netanyahu and the Israeli government launched a genocidal war. The Israeli army bombs homes, hospitals, and schools in Gaza, turning them into ruins. The occupation and apartheid must end. Peace must be pursued.".
He noted that he "mourns the lives lost in the war crime committed by Hamas, and prays for the return of all hostages still being held.".
The candidate, the frontrunner in the race, added: "Our government was complicit in all of this, it must end, the occupation and apartheid must end.".
The Foreign Ministry published a response to his comments on the X network: "Two years after Hamas launched the barbaric massacre against Israel and the Jewish people, Mamdani chose to serve as a mouthpiece for Hamas propaganda - and to spread its fake genocide campaign.".
The statement further stated: "By repeating Hamas' lies, Mamdani excuses terrorism and normalizes anti-Semitism. He only stands with Jews when they are dead. Shameful.".
