Yaakov Wider, a member of the Bnei Brak City Council and chairman of the Likud faction, submitted a motion for a vote in the City Council, calling for unequivocal condemnation of the conduct of the unrepresentative extremist minority, as he defined it, that is attacking IDF soldiers in the city - along with a call for law enforcement to take strong action against them.

Wider writes in his proposal: "The Bnei Brak City Council views with great seriousness any attempt by an extremist minority to harm, harass, insult or curse IDF soldiers. Bnei Brak is the city of all Israel - a city of Torah, kindness and unity. There will be no situation in which IDF soldiers will not be able to move freely and safely in Bnei Brak. Those who protect us will feel safe with us.".

Wider added that the vast majority of Bnei Brak residents love IDF soldiers and pray for their safety and success: "We must not allow an extremist minority to tarnish the good name of Bnei Brak. The entire council must send a clear message of respect, responsibility and appreciation for IDF soldiers.""

It should be noted that this is the first case in which the Bnei Brak City Council, considered the "ultra-Orthodox capital city," is required to vote on a reinforcement announcement for IDF soldiers.

Now we just have to wait and see how the factions in the council, including the 'Etz' faction of the Jerusalem faction, will vote.
