Communications Minister Shlomo Karai responded today (Tuesday) to the ultimatum that the High Court of Justice issued to Justice Minister Yariv Levin regarding convening the committee to select judges, and called on Minister Levin to violate a ruling ordering him to convene the committee.
""Even if such a bizarre ruling is issued, the Minister of Justice must act in accordance with his legal authority and not listen to those who try to undermine his foundations, and certainly not resign from his position," said Karai. "We must be strong and determined in the face of the unelected's hostile attempt to take over Israeli democracy and law.".
He added: "This is the embodiment of legal tyranny, which contradicts every democratic value on which they supposedly rely in exercising legal activism. The height of legal oligarchy. This is not a trial - this is a coup!""
The High Court of Justice clarified earlier that if the committee is not convened, Justice Minister Yariv Levin will be required to convene it at the end of the court recess in September.
