In recent years, a refreshing change has been taking place in civil service: volunteers are integrated into a variety of occupational service tracks, which provide them with professional experience - in addition to significant service to the community.

Within this framework, the 'Ma'alot' program was developed, in which volunteers receive professional training for a position in the service. The success of the program and the satisfaction of the volunteers and graduates contributed to the addition of additional service tracks.

The service member entered the fourth cycle of the 'Ma'alot' program and received training in fire protection, a field with high demand in the private market.

After completing his training, a few months ago, he began volunteering in the Northern District Fire and Rescue Service in the position for which he was trained. The service members' familiarity with the security and rescue elements in the various bodies creates surprising connections and ideas for contributions and added value for the community, sometimes from the volunteers themselves.

Thus was born the initiative of the volunteer, who approached his commanders and asked them to come with a fire truck and talk to the children about the precautions to be taken with fire.

The idea that came up was to connect this with the order of learning the alphabet in the Talmud Torah, and when the children, who study in Yiddish, reached the letter P and learned about the word "fire," the father surprised them, along with his commanders, and in coordination with the Talmud Torah administration, he arrived and showed the children the fire truck and the equipment on it.

The children stood gaping as the fire truck entered the Talmud Torah plaza. The serviceman stood for a long hour with the fire truck crew, explaining to the children the dangers of fire and the role of the fire truck in an emergency.

The teachers at the Hasidic Talmud Torah excitedly thanked the father who came up with a brilliant and original idea, and said that the children will certainly never forget this letter.

The Director General of the Civilian National Service Authority, Reuven Pinsky, welcomed the original initiative and noted that the authority sees great importance in connecting volunteers with the community within the framework of the various roles they perform in the security bodies.

""The right combination of a professional and high-quality role and meaningful service contributes to wonderful connections and ideas for service members and the community.".

On the issue of fire safety, he added: "We have a responsibility to act to prevent harm to life and I am happy to hear about the members of the civil service who work to save lives every day and with great responsibility continue this activity within the community.".
