The rift in the Sedigura courtyard has deteriorated rapidly in recent months - since the passing of the Rebbe zt"l in the month of Av - and both sides have even filed mutual complaints with the police over the inheritance dispute and the theft of ancient books, Judaica objects, and family property valued at millions that were in the safe in the Rebbe zt"l's room.
The people of the new Rebbe, Rabbi Yitzhak Yehoshua Heshil, continue to fight for the implementation of the will and against the outline of the distribution of the Rebbes decided upon by the widowed mother, and especially against the establishment of the eldest brother, Rabbi Mordechai Shalom Yosef, in Jerusalem - where most of the court's income-generating assets in Israel are located.
Against the backdrop of this controversy, Amnon Levy hosted Attorney Nathan Rosenblatt on "Shash" who was presented as a close associate of the family of the Rebbe of Sadigura:
Rosenblatt: "The Rebbe left behind 6 sons and 3 daughters. Of the sons, the eldest son is 38 years old, Rabbi Mordechai, and the fifth son is Rabbi Yehoshua. The main dispute is between these two sons, as the will explicitly states that the one who will be the Rebbe will be the fifth son, who is the youngest son.
Amnon Levy: That it was a shock and astonishment... But if it is the Rebbe's will, it is generally accepted to fulfill the Rebbe's will, isn't it?
""That's right, that's why 90 to 95 percent of the Hasidim followed the young Rebbe without a doubt. What happens is that the older Rebbe, the older son, didn't accept, set up a court alone in Jerusalem and a few dozen Hasidim followed him, the mother, as you know, with him.
Amnon Levy: Nathan, it's a terrible insult to the eldest son that the father preferred the younger son, even though it naturally passes on to the eldest son, look at his picture, he's really a child, the younger son, it's a slap in the face to the older son.
""It depends on how you look at it. Just because there's someone who's more suitable than you doesn't mean you're wrong.".
Amnon Levy: Everyone understands this, I'm not okay if my father gives the Hasidism to the youngest son and not to me...
""It's not that you're wrong, there's someone better. You know, the enemy of the good is the excellent. I know the younger son, I've been close to this Hasidism since the days of my grandfather, and the younger son, ever since he was a little boy, we've kept an eye on him, we knew that this was a person who was above and beyond. Once in a generation comes a soul like that.
Amnon Levy: Nathan, how does the theft fit into this story?
""It's not theft. Every Rebbe leaves behind treasures that he inherited from previous Rebbes worth hundreds of thousands and sometimes millions of dollars. We're talking about sacred objects from hundreds of years ago. And then there's an argument about who it belongs to. The mother, you know, is the most respected woman in Hasidism, everyone loves her, it's the complete opposite of what is portrayed in the media.".
Amnon Levy: She's the one who filed the complaint, right?
""We don't want to be in her place, you know what it's like when two children fight and how the mother feels. And that's why it brings her to all sorts of steps like this. But they respect her very much, they left her the apartment, a huge apartment, they give her everything she wants, but the nature of inheritance disputes is unpleasant.".
