Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's entourage is promoting a reduction in VAT in the coming weeks.
According to a report this evening (Wednesday) by Liel Kaiser on 'Kan News', Netanyahu and his economic advisor spoke with Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich about lowering the VAT to 17%.
However, political figures who ignore the economic burden placed on the public criticized the move, claiming: "This is an election economy on steroids.".
Another senior official commented: "Netanyahu wants to hand out gifts to the public and on the other hand promises huge increases to security. He says yes to everything. This is election economics by the book.".
The Prime Minister's Office stated: "This issue is within the authority of the Minister of Finance and is not currently on the agenda.".
