Over the past month, police from the Ashdod police station conducted an undercover investigation following a series of break-ins at Gan apartments in Ashdod. The investigation revealed the suspicion that the cell was involved in a number of break-ins that occurred in the city starting in January of this year.
During the investigation, and with the help of technological means and findings from the Criminal Investigation Unit, investigators from the Ashdod Police Station were able to trace the identity of the main suspect - an illegal resident, a resident of Katana. Additional suspects and participants were later located, as well as a hideout apartment that the members of the cell used to organize and stay after carrying out the explosions.
Over the weekend, during an operational activity, the main suspect was arrested when he returned to the hideout apartment, with a large amount of property in his possession that was suspected to have been stolen during the break-ins that took place earlier that day in the city.
The search resulted in the seizure of large amounts of gold jewelry, cash, cell phones, the scooter that was suspected of being used to carry out the explosions, as well as helmets, burglary tools, and other items of clothing found in the hideout apartment.
The arrested suspect was transferred for further investigation to the Ashdod police station.
Lt. Col. Ronen Amram, commander of the Ashdod police station, said: "This is a complex and focused investigation that took place over several weeks, combining technological means, intelligence work and determined operational activity by the police officers at the station. The arrest of the suspect and the seizure of the suspected stolen property constitute a significant blow to criminal activity that has damaged the residents' sense of security. We will continue to act decisively against property criminals and those who act against the law.".
The investigation is continuing to identify additional people involved.
