A large crowd today (Wednesday) accompanied Sergeant Shmuel Moshe Nol, a soldier in the ultra-Orthodox Netzah Yehuda battalion, to his resting place, who fell in the disaster at Beit Hanun.
Family members led the funeral procession, led by the father, Rabbi David Nol, 86. Shmuel's parents, Chabad Hasidim, immigrated to Israel about 20 years ago, first to the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem and later to the Chabad community in Beit Shemesh.
Family members said that Shmuel's father was proud to say that his son fought in Gaza.
The escorts accompanied the family members as they left the house singing "Our Brothers, All of the House of Israel" and later marched together singing "I Believe," with Israeli flags at their sides - on their way to Mount Herzl.
At the burial on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, a recording of the battalion commander's eulogy, sent from Gaza, was played: "Despite all the challenges and difficulties, you chose to serve, you chose to give, and all with your special smile.".
The battalion commander noted that he was unable to attend due to the fighting in the Gaza Strip, but asked to strengthen the family's hands: "Dear Nol family, I would like to share in your sorrow because the connection between us will be woven forever. We are here to embrace and strengthen.".
""I'm recording for you from the Strip while your friends and I are here continuing the mission you started," the battalion commander added painfully - and promised: "We won't stop until it's completed.".
Yesterday, four of the fighters who fell in the disaster were laid to rest: Moshe Nissim Paresh, Meir Shimon Amar, Noam Aharon Masagdian, and Benjamin Assulin, who were killed in an IED explosion and in an ambush by Hamas terrorists.
The details of the investigation revealed that the bombs that exploded at the scene had all been planted the previous day. Three bombs exploded one after the other, while the terrorists who planted them were watching the event.
