In the past 24 hours, an Air Force military Hercules plane that took off from Athens landed in Israel, as part of an effort to rescue Israeli military personnel who remained 'stuck' abroad with the start of Operation 'With a Dog', following the cancellation of flights.
The military flights were intended to bring back soldiers and reservists needed for the extraordinary security campaign, but the military flight also carried two passengers who were not serving in the reserves - and certainly not needed for the war effort.
According to the report by military commentator Noam Amir on Channel 14, among the passengers were the former commander of Unit 8200 along with his family, as well as Maj. Gen. (retd.) Amos Yadlin - who was head of the Intelligence Directorate and later headed the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) for about a decade - and his secretary.
When Channel 14 approached Yadlin for comment, he explained his presence on the plane by saying, "It's important that the public hear me." Yadlin did indeed appear on one of the programs last night as a commentator - and the public did hear him.
The IDF Spokesperson initially stated that "such an incident is not known," but after they were shown a picture showing the luxurious Hercules plane along with the people in question, the following response was received: The incident will be investigated and procedures will be tightened.
The dream comes true: Want a good salary? A secure job? Good conditions? Come to the police.
About a month ago, Yadlin gave an interview to Neve Dromi on the i24NEWS channel, during which she grilled him and embarrassed him, when she confronted him with his predictions from the past that were shattered.
MK Avichai Boaron of the Likud submitted a question today (Tuesday) to Defense Minister Yisrael Katz, in which he raises serious allegations regarding Yadlin's flight on the special military flight.
In a query, Boaron noted that the information was first provided by Channel 14's military commentator, and that it is not clear how permission was given to passengers who are not soldiers or those in an operational role.
According to him, "Amos Yadlin, who is a retired major general, illegally boarded the Hercules plane that brought the IDF personnel back to Israel, but, as far as the undersigned knows, has not held any position in the ranks of the army for many years.".
According to Boaron, in response to a reporter's question about the reason for his participation in the military flight, Yadlin replied: "It is important that the public hear me, and therefore it is important that I get on the plane and arrive in Israel.".
Boaron commented on this cynically: "And indeed, the public, at least in part, heard him, and welfare and salvation were registered among the public.".
Further in the appeal, he asks the Minister of Defense to check who approved the boarding of Yadlin and his secretary on the military plane, whether this action was taken in violation of procedures, and whether the Ministry of Defense intends to charge the passengers for this flight, even retroactively.
He also demands that procedures be refined among all parties involved, in order to prevent a recurrence of cases of "abnormal compliance," according to him: "Abnormal compliance, as we have recently learned, violates the law and the rules of proper administration, and in any case, I will ask that the relevant enforcement agencies be informed of the details of the investigation that will be conducted in the matter.".
Boaron ends his address with an unequivocal statement: "It is impossible for someone who does not hold an official position in the IDF to exploit the IDF system for his private needs and use public resources as if they were his private property, trampling on every established norm and contrary to the law.".
